Artist talk & vernissage with Diana Markosian

Grand opening: Santa Barbara exhibition

Hero Image for Artist talk & vernissage with Diana Markosian

ABOUT THE EVENT

Experience a deep dive into Diana Markosian’s thoughts behind the exhibition and her work. How did one of the first American soap operas to be shown in the country after the fall of the Soviet Union become such an important part of her life that it gave its name and inspiration to her exhibition? What was it like to, at the age of seven, leave her father in post-Soviet Russia and follow her mother to a new life in the hope of the American dream? And how is all of this portrayed in the Santa Barbara exhibition?

The artist talk will be held by Fotografiska’s Director of Exhibitions Lisa Hydén. After the artist talk, the audience is welcome downstairs to be the first to experience the exhibition in a closed opening event.

About Santa Barbara

The exhibition re-examines and challenges the boundaries of truth, fiction, documentary and memory. In 2016, she was invited to join the esteemed photographers’ cooperative Magnum, but resigned when she was asked to submit a project other than Santa Barbara to advance her membership. “Santa Barbara has been the most special, and the most truthful, project I’ve worked on,” she says.

The exhibition is on display at Fotografiska Stockholm from 17 March to 27 August.

Santa Barbara is originated by International Center of Photograhy, NY, in collaboration with FOMU, Antwerp, and Galerie Les filles du calvaire, Paris.
