Book Launch: Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez & the Swedish Down Syndrome Association

A conversation about the stories behind the images in the new book Välkommen (Welcome). Meet Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez, the Swedish Down Syndrome Association, and the families featured in the book.

A split image: on the left, a young girl in a pink cardigan sits on a lawn covered with small white flowers, eyes closed and hands raised; on the right, a black-and-white portrait of an adult with curly hair and glasses, wrapped in a dark blanket against a plain background.

The evening marks the launch of the book Välkommen – att få ett barn med Downs syndrom (Welcome – Having a Child with Down Syndrome). In its pages, eleven parents, a pair of siblings, and a grandmother share their personal stories about life with a young child with Down syndrome.

Together, they create a nuanced portrait of life, touching on love, daily routines, joy, and uncertainty. It is a tribute to children who, just like any other, are their own unique and deeply loved individuals.

Photographer Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez has met and portrayed the families. Through her images and the participants' stories, we are invited to experience both the small and great moments of life, the solemn and the joyful. The book is the result of a collective effort by the members of the Swedish Down Syndrome Association to welcome and support new families.

During the evening, you will meet the book's photographers, writers, and parents in a conversation centered on presence and community. For anyone who has felt the love for a child, or has a close connection to someone with Down syndrome, this evening is dedicated to you.
