Corbijn Sessions x Strage 02

For three evenings, Fredrik Strage delves into Anton Corbijn's universe. This time, the spotlight is on the band he has collaborated with most often: Depeche Mode.

Right image: A person with glasses and short hair wears a black leather jacket and a T-shirt with the text “STRAGE ON STAGE.” The photo is in black and white, and the person is looking slightly to the side.

For three evenings, Fredrik Strage delves into Anton Corbijn's universe. This time, the spotlight is on the band he has collaborated with most often: Depeche Mode. Some of Corbijn's classic videos are shown, and Fredrik Strage talks to the Depeche Mode-inspired artist EMMON.

Anton Corbijn was initially sceptical about working with Depeche Mode. He didn't like their music or their look. He agreed to direct the video for ‘A Question of Time’ in 1986 mainly because it gave him the opportunity to work in the United States. The meeting with the Dutch photographer was crucial for the British group. His visual ideas contributed to them becoming one of the world's biggest bands in the early 1990s. The collaboration between Corbijn and Depeche Mode is still ongoing and is well represented in Fotografiska's major exhibition Corbijn, Anton.

CONVERSATION ON STAGE: EMMON & FREDRIK STRAGE

Since the turn of the millennium, Emma Nylén has been making pulsating synthpop under her alias EMMON. She has also been a singer in the indie pop group Paris and with the Depeche Mode cover band New Dress.

On 17 October, she will release her new album ‘Icon’, and before then, she will be visiting Fotografiska to talk to Fredrik Strage about the band that has had a profound influence on both of them: Depeche Mode.

FILM SCREENING: DEPECHE MODE VIDEOS

This evening, we'll be showing a bunch of Anton Corbijn's classic videos. EMMON and Strage will also be watching the short films ‘Strange’ and ‘Strange too’ as well as bits of the concert films “Devotional” and ‘Spirits in the forest’. After that, it's time to enjoy drinks at the bar and some Depeche Mode DJing.
