ILOVERUSS had its world premiere at CPH:DOX, where it was praised for its powerful visual expression and emotional precision. Critics highlighted the film’s balance between fiction and reality, its poetically composed imagery, and the way the story gradually unfolds as a bittersweet warning about love, identity, and dreams.
ILOVERUSS
This 20-year-long documentary portrait follows a lonely dreamer in the city of dreams. Swedish filmmaker Tova becomes the aging actor Russ’s only friend in the vast metropolis of Los Angeles. She traces his journey from eager dreamer to disillusioned recluse in the shadow of the Hollywood sign, letting the camera roll along the way. Lynchian corridors and veiled images of the city of dreams intertwine with an intimate artistic portrait of a perpetual extra grappling with himself and a lifetime of unrealized creative ambitions. Winner of the 1KM Film Award, Tova Mozard’s quietly magnificent feature-length debut lingers in the body long after the end credits.

about tove mozard
Tova Mozard’s work centers on relationships, self-image, and the roles we play in relation to one another, often in situations where reality and performance blur. She frequently works with people from her own life, creating psychologically charged spaces in which intimacy, power, and vulnerability are laid bare. Her work has previously been exhibited at institutions including Moderna Museet, Bonniers Konsthall, and Gothenburg Art Museum, as well as at international festivals and art institutions. Today, Mozard is regarded as one of Sweden’s most distinctive voices in hybrid film and contemporary art.
