Photography course for parents on leave

Capturing everyday life together – a photography course for parents on parental leave

Hero Image for Fotokurs för föräldralediga

Are you on parental leave and want to capture everyday life in pictures with your child? For three mornings, we'll join photographer Jenny Hammar at Fotografiska and learn how to tell stories with a camera – about light, technique, editing, and capturing life just as it is.

The course is run in collaboration with the photo book company Once Upon and is aimed at those who want to create a photographic diary rather than perfect portraits. You will be given assignments to work on, we will inspire each other and our little ones – and of course there will be coffee and cake.

Use any camera you like, mobile or system camera. No prior knowledge is required.

The sessions in short

1: Motifs & perspectives
We start off playfully and try out different ways of taking photos: close up, at ground level, from above or with something in the foreground. The focus is on variety and finding new angles in everyday life.

2: Light & relationships
We talk about how to use existing light, lamps and shadows, and why it is sometimes best to be a ‘fly on the wall’ to capture genuine moments.

3: Technology & editing
We go through how you can enhance your image with your mobile phone or camera, from simple settings to editing such as black and white. We'll also tie up the course and talk about how you can preserve your image treasure for the future.

How to prepare

Bring something to photograph with – a mobile phone or camera works just as well. No prior knowledge is required, and all questions are welcome.

Practical information

Three course sessions for 12 parents with children. The ticket is valid for the entire day at Fotografiska – take the opportunity to have a snack in the bistro or visit the exhibitions before or after the course.

Would you like to give the course as a gift? Book in your own name and email hello.stockholm@fotografiska.com for a name change and confirmation.

All participants will also receive a gift card for Once Upon to create their own photo book.
