Feng Li profiles everyday absurdities at Fotografiska

With his visual language and an ever-present ironic undertone, the Chinese photographer Feng Li has become one of China’s brightest stars within contemporary photography. The exhibition White Nights in Wonderland shows around 200 works from the most recent 20 years of his career.

“Feng Li’s photographs present the world in a new way, with his unique approach to revealing what is special in the mundane. His ability to exceed cultural boundaries and build bridges between worlds felt like a perfect match with our vision at Fotografiska, and we are thrilled to be exhibiting him this autumn, as one of China’s most important contemporary photographers,” says Jessica Jarl, Global Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska Stockholm.

The modern cityscape as his backdrop

Feng Li’s unique visual approach has led to international renown within everything from street photography to fashion, from Paris to Tokyo and from Shanghai to his hometown of Chengdu. Using the modern cityscape as his backdrop, he captures the enigmatic and fleeting moments of daily life while highlighting their absurdities. His lens lets us experience the fast-paced development of modern China, often with surrealistic and subtle details.

White Nights in Wonderland is loosely ordered chronologically with three sections: White Nights, City Express and What is Fashion?, each focusing on important moments in the artist’s development.
