Nils Petter Löfstedt

The Pier

Utställning | Nils Petter Löfstedt | Piren | Fotografiska Stockholm

The term street art is an unsanctioned creative initiative that often makes use of the artist’s environment. Its departure point is usually in the public space.

Street art does not ask for permission

Piren is a documentary (https://fotografiska.woo.flewid.se/exhibition/the-pier/) about a well-known and much talked about street art project that took place in Malmö between January and May 2009. Nils Petter Löfstedt and Erik Vestman worked for six months to transform a crawl space under a pier into a hidden living room. According to Löfstedt and Vestman, “The concept of street art is in a constant state of flux. Street art does not ask for permission, it happens.” We follow the success and setbacks of this project through documentary video recordings and photographs.

Nils Petter Löfstedt (born 1980) works with photography, film, and street art. He has lived and worked in Dublin and Brighton and now resides in Malmö. Löfstedt recently released a book entitled Club 13.

Erik Vestman (born 1977) is an artist, carpenter, and teacher. He spent his youth in Falun, Nepal, and Tanzania, and now resides in Malmö. Vestman works with unsolicited installations and public art.
